Spawning continued during June with the fine weather but the catch rate was still good with over 50 fish coming out 10 of them being 20lb plus. The best tacticts seem to be tipping off the boillie with a plastic corn or piece of trimmed pop-up. The swims with the most weed seem to be holding the fish regardless of wind direction. Some of the heavier weed in some swims have been removed and this is an ongoing process during quieter periods.

Please note we do not take advanced bookings and all pegs are on a first come first served basis, and any 20lb plus fish caught must be verified by and independant person to claim free hoody.

Big news for the beginning of July is the start of Lin cooking a full english breakfasts that has been well received from those who have bought one. John takes the order the night before from your peg and its delivered between 8.30am and 10am, and it will be piping hot with knives an forks for £3.50 give it a try.

Gates are open from 8am to 8pm with all people just visisting any angler to leave no later than 8pm. The gates are fitted with combo locks which will only be issued to an angler in an emergancy situation.

May was another good month for 20lb plus fish with another 12 coming to the scales, the biggest one being 23lb 8oz. A good number of back-up fish of 17lb and above as well with a total of 47 fish being landed, although a shortfall of what we prodected, the quality is very good.
One or two of the baits being the most successful is boillie with plastic corn or white pop-ups, or white/yellow pop-ups on their own. Rainbow Lake boillies have done very well, along with Fusion and Pro-active pineapple. On an evening after a hot day, dog biscuits are well worth a try.
On the last weekend in May carp started spawning and had another go the weekend after, so hopefully they now have got it all done and dusted for the year.

There has been a vast improvement in the fishing over April, with no fewer than 11 x 20lb plus fish being taken in this period and a reasonalbe amount of good doubles to back it up.
Wayne fishing peg 1 really took on a very cold northerly wind, read the peg extreamly well, put his bait on the money and had a fabulous first 5 hours over a 2 day stint to land 3 x 20lb plus fish, a lake record catch in such a short time for Rainbow Lake, and a well deserved hoody for Wayne.
Hot on his heels was Lee who took 4 fish in one afternoon including 2 x 20lb plus from Peg 25, well done Lee.
But don’t be missled, this does not happen for everyone. We still say it is a hard water to crack, so well done to Wayne and Lee for their achievements.

As you will see by new gate posts, some time in the near future, new gates will be fitted with combo locks, which will be locked at 8 pm and unlocked at 8 am. During the locked period to leave in an emergency just call and the number will be given. In the mean time we will be carrying on with normal pad locks.
Anyone wishing to look round the lake must do so before the gates are locked.
Please note that this is just to give added security for our anglers.

January newsletter
There was not much to report during Jan due to being frozen for most of the month. So we thought we would take the opportunity to look back and see what has been acheived over the last 6 years at Rainbow Lake.
Access is reasonably good, with car parks provided and over 50% of the pegs (weather permitting) can be parked behind. The pegs are of a good size, well maintained and Klinik to treat your catch, and very shortly will be tidied up and woodchipped for the coming season.
The stock
When we puchased the lake in 2003 we inherited plenty of small fish for the maggot angler and a reasonable head of carp consisting of mirrors, commons, ghosties and a few grass carp. Since then we have introduced approx 8,000 roach to help manage the abundence of natural food in the lake.
Then the introduction of carp, we selected Mark Simmons Fisher Pond strain, originally bred by John Paton, these mirrors really bang on the weight. First introduced in Dec 2004, 40 at 3lb to 6lb at 3 years old. These fish could be 18lb plus by now.
February 2006 we stocked 5 times 22lb to 26lb fish of the same strain. Supplied at 7 years old should have made 30lb now, but unfortunatley due to the 2007 floods, we sadly lost 3, but 2 are still there, so a 30lb Simmo is just round the corner.
November 2006 we stocked 25 times 12lb to 14lb of the same strain at 5 years old, these also took a bit of a hammering during the floods, but with almost 50% left these fish are knocking on the door of 20lb.
March 2008 saw us bringing in a new strain supplied by Andy Parker, he supplied us with 37 of his very scallie mirrors at 3lb to 4lb which were 3 years old when stocked. During 2009 the biggest we had caught that weighed in at 9lb 10oz, not a bad growth rate in 18 months.
February 2010 we added 10 times 19lb to 22lb fish delivered by Mark Simmons at 6 years old these are some of the best fish on the market, and as we write this 26th Feb 2010, 8 mirrors and 2 commons, 8 of which are 20lb plus are having their first night in Rainbow Lake. Many thanks to John, Mark, Steve and Ian for the smooth intro, Graham for the delivery and especially to Mark Simmons for the superb fish.
So as you can see with the continued support we have been getting and hopefully new faces as well, we think we are on a winner and so are our anglers. Some are fortunate to go home better dressed than when they came, with one of our free hoodies for a fish over 20lb. One angler every year gets 12 months free fishing for landing the biggest fish of the year. It does not get much better than Rainbow Lake. In our opinion anyway, John and Lin

Congratulations to Ben for catching his PB 21lber and to Mark who is one of our regulars here at Rainbow.
The nights are now drawing in and the number of anglers is dwindling, so as the catch report reflects, not so many fish caught.
When you come down to Rainbow at this time of the year you may find the gates locked, unfortunatly this has to be done as the tracks around the lake are all grass and churn up easily during these wet conditions. This does not mean we are closed, it just means which ever peg you choose, it will mean a walk, so if you have a barrow you are more than welcome to use it.
Anyone interested in particals, we do a mix consisting of hemp, wheat, maze and maple peas ready prepared and in bags of appox 1 kg at the price of £1 per bag. As with our boillies these must be pre-ordered to save dissapointment.

News for August 2009

Although not mentioned in the catch report, several stockies were caught between 7lb and 8lb 8oz so weight is increasing at a good rate. Also bream from several areas between 7lb and 10lb. As you can see from the catch report fishing not at its best, but as we all know August is not paticularly a good month. A lot of the fish appear to be in mid water or near the top and weather permitting dog biscuits maybe worth a try.
As some of you may have noticed peg 31 and others are closed on weekends to enable pegs 1 to 7 to benifit from far bank fishing.
As of the 1st September and for the rest of the comming month we will not be allowing anglers on the lake after 8pm unless prior arrangements have been made. This time will change on a monthly basis during the winter months. The reason being its very difficult to set up and position rigs where required in the dark and less disturbing for anglers with lines already out.
PLEASE NOTE WE ARE NOW SELLING COOKED MIXED PARTICALS AT £1 PER KILO, just buy on the bank or per-order by calling. This is in addition to our boillie and pellets sales already available through bank-side, or telephone orders.

July, what has happened to the bbq summer, I think not, still the te
mperatures have been quite high, and the winds strong causing ripple constantly on the lake. Not noted to be one of the best months on the carping calander as the catch report shows. Normally a few more fish would have come of the top, but the ripple and rain has put a stop and made surface fishing considerably harder. Which hopefully with a more seasonal August this may improve, but the anglers have managed to winkle out quite a few tidy fish during difficult times.
For the course fishing angler they have had better results with roach, bream and tench falling to corn and pellet, pegs 1, 7, 19 and 21 giving the better catch, with various other pegs producing mixed bags.
Roll on Summer.

The news for June must start off with spawning, although it started in May the fish have continued into June and only last week had another go.
On the hot fine days plenty of fish could be seen on or near the top enjoying the sunshine, with dog biscuits or floaters tempting some of them onto the hook during the day, although the fish seem to know which biscuit has the hook, much to the annoyance of you guys.
Night time bottom baits used although still proving difficult but more productive in the shallower swims or in the deeper swims down the margins.
Due to the fact that a few fish have been lost in the thickest of the lillie pads, thinning out of these pads is progressing when pegs become available to work on.
With more unstettled weather forecast for July hopefully the fish will respond and the catch rate will increase.
The maggot anglers have been coming and catching quite readilly, with a few tench, skimmers, roach and rudd showing but with the majority of perch. Some of the anglers have had substantial catches of 200+ fish per session. Pegs 2, 6, 7, 9, 12, 17 and 18 producing such results consistantly.
